In order to obtain the highest quality and satisfaction in the finished product, please consider the following:

  • Backing must be 4"-6" wider on all four sides.
  • I can accomodate quilt backings up to 108" maximum width.
  • If you provide the batting, it needs to be the same width as backing.
  • Make sure the top and backing are well pressed, flat, and have been squared off.
  • Preferably, if a seam on the backing is necessary, it will be across the width, horizontal. Seam should be ½" and pressed open on the backing. Selvage removed.
  • When choosing a backing fabric, keep in mind the thread color that you are going to want for the top. Light colored thread on a dark back or dark colored thread on a light back will create a major contrast.
  • Ripples in the borders will not "quilt out" so be sure to measure the borders carefully before sewing them onto your quilt. To ensure your borders are applied correctly:

    • Measure the full length of your quilt in 3 places: left side, center and right side. Add those measurements and divide by 3 to get an average. For example 61"+62"+60"= 183". Divide by 3 equals an average of 61".
    • Cut the two side borders to this length measurement, in this case 61". Pin border to quilt, first in the center and then each end. Ease to fit, if necessary and pin to distribute fabric. Sew and press the seam towards the border.
    • Repeat this process widthwise for top and bottom borders, and remember to include the borders in the width measurement.
    • Repeat process for any additional borders.
    • Please "stay-stitch" the outside border edge of the whole quilt. This prevents fabric stretching from any further handling.

  • Trim threads from the back of quilt top.

  • Please, no sheets for backing fabric.
